Artist Statement

My inspiration flows from my love of nature and Japanese art and culture.  I am intrigued with Japanese folklore and history and a lot of my interest is attributed to my exposure to anime at a young age. The worlds that we create in our minds and imaginations truly fascinate me.

Japanese culture is very different from our own. It has a mystical quality involved where a lot of people’s imaginations come to live and give birth to the interesting myths and folklore that are still being distributed today. Plenty of Japanese art is based in nature. I have an affinity for the natural and Japan’s landscape, flora and fauna are peaceful and are at home in my heart, thus becoming apparent in many of my works.

In my work, I like to utilize many colors at a time. Natural beauty, fictitious characters, and my own personality and desires inspire my process. I have worked in many different mediums, such as watercolor and acrylic paint, digital prints, metal castings and ceramics.
